Hi community,

Andrew Dunn here, stewarding Siempo since 2017. Forgive us for the radio silence over the last year. It has continued to be a rollercoaster journey. We wish you and your loved ones all the health, connection and clarity in these dynamic times.

Update On Operations

I’m writing you today to communicate an update and what may be a final invitation for partnership.

Due to a variety of challenges, we are considering winding down Siempo, Inc. (the business, not the app).

As pioneers in the digital wellness movement, we have managed to stay in the game for five years, through multiple pivots…

We’ve built a browser extension called Shift that brings the best of Siempo’s digital wellness features to your desktop browser (Chrome, Firefox).

And like Siempo for Android, it’s 100% free and open-source, built in partnership with people like you, and has zero ads.

Avoid distracting websites that steal away your time

A gentle visual nudge

Fight unconscious refreshing with friction

Siempo is pivoting to open source in order to be the leading force in this movement. We invite you to support the effort on Patreon or as a volunteer.

Exhales*

In late summer, I started drafting an “RIP Siempo” letter to update to you on the state of things. Not because we were ready to shut the company down (although this was a real possibility); rather, because we felt like Siempo was actually resting. Peacefully.

We had decided to pause our efforts as a result of monumental competitive landscape shifts, the resulting fundraising challenges, creeping burnout, and a sense that…

I recently wrote about how I made the switch from iPhone to Android in pursuit of a healthier relationship to my smartphone. I was inspired to switch because of a new Android-only app (Siempo) that was designed to tame the addictive features of our smartphones. The combination of Siempo with Google’s just-announced Digital Well-Being features means that making the switch from iPhone to Android is worth more serious consideration than ever.

In case other iPhone users are pondering a switch to Android, this guide reviews all the steps and considerations involved.

Since launching in the Play Store four weeks ago, Siempo has been downloaded thousands of times, earned a 4.2 star rating, and most importantly: helped people use their phones in a way that feels better for them.

We plan to release improvements to the Seimpo beta app monthly. See below for some of the changes. If Siempo is not set to auto-update, please update Siempo now.

Onboarding and Permissions

You asked and we listened. We’ve improved the experience on first installation so it’s easier to understand how to navigate and customize your Siempo experience.

We also only ask for one permission upon first…

iPhone User Switches to Android To Test Drive Siempo, The First Smartphone Interface Designed To Promote Well-Being

TL;DR: I switched from iPhone to Android so that I could try a new Android app called Siempo — the first smartphone interface designed to promote well-being by taming the addictive qualities of your smartphone. …

Color is emotional and expressive. It grabs our attention.

Sometimes for good, sometimes for bad.

Once upon a time, color grabbing our attention was very good.

It helped our ancestors spot fruit in the trees and distinguish where there was edible and ripe fruit. Now, color is applied cosmetically in the digital world to bedazzle our attention — not for our survival, and not even in our best interests.

Smartphone displays have been getting bigger and supporting better image resolution for the last few years. …

On the one year anniversary of launching the Siempo Phone to the world, we are thrilled to announce that our beta is officially live in the Play Store! With a fresh design and new and enhanced features, the Siempo Home App is finally in a place that we are proud to share with the world.

It has been a wild journey to get here. None of it would be possible without your support and encouragement. Thank you for believing in technology that protects our minds and replenishes society.

If you are an Android user, please download Siempo here. If not…
