On computer networks, home and small business websites use a combination of a firewall and a Spectrum wifi access point to provide Spectrum wifi access and to connect their local area networks to the connections to their Internet service providers. Learn how to perform spectrum activation and Spectrum bill payment.

Turn off your Spectrum wifi network from any computer connected to the internet.

1. Log into a computer that is connected to the local network where the access point is located, that is, a computer in the same house or office. Log in to the access point as an administrator. The exact procedure depends on the make and model of the access point. For example, for a Linksys WRT54GS, start a browser on the computer that is connected to the access point, then navigate to the web address 192.168.1.1. Enter “admin” for the user name, enter the administrator password and click “OK”.

2. Obtain the current external IP address for the access point from its configuration utility. For example, for a Linksys WRT54GS, click Status, then click Router. Make a note of the external IP address listed next to the “IP Address” heading.

3. Configure the access point to allow remote logons. For example, for a Linksys WRT54GS, click Administration, then click Management. Enable “Remote Management” and click “Save Settings”.

4. Start a web browser on the remote computer from which you want to turn off the wifi connection. Navigate to the IP address obtained in step 2. Log in to the access point as an administrator and disable the Spectrum wifi network. For example, for a Linksys WRT54GS, click Spectrum wifi, then click Spectrum wifi Basic Settings. Select “Disabled” from the pull-down menu next to “Spectrum wifi Network Mode”, then click “Save Settings”. At this point, you have remotely disabled your Spectrum wifi network where the access point is located.
