With all that is going on in the world now, I feel helpless. But I look around and I see great things that people are doing to help others. So, in order not to feel so helpless, I have decided to create an aggregate of organizations that were formed as a result of the suffering that people are going through. You can donate or volunteer or help in some other way. All are great organizations that were formed by individuals like you and me who care about the world and want to help ease the suffering and all of them are doing great work.

1. Project Amal ou Salam (http://projectamalousalam.org/about)

Project Amal ou Salam, meaning Project Hope and Peace, is a grassroots organization dedicated to empowering Syria’s children to rebuild their country and work for peace. This is done through day camps with Syrian children, material donations (such as coloring books, games, and sports equipment), holiday events, and monetary support of schools both inside and out of Syria. In the last two years, our workshops have reached thousands of Syrian children and we have begun sponsoring schools in the major countries of refuge (Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon) and inside Syria. To learn more about our work, you can check out the timeline of our activities, read our mission and goals, and meet the volunteers who make Project Amal ou Salam possible.

As a result of the campaign going viral, Cristal received support from volunteers inspired and offering to help. We have a network of over 3000 volunteers across the globe and donations continue to flow in from supporters everywhere on a daily basis.

5. Basmah ou Zeitouneh (http://www.basmeh-zeitooneh.org/)

Basmeh & Zeitooneh has taken a simpler, integrated approach to make it easy for people to find us. We have established community centers that are easily accessible by the refugees and their hosts, friendly and welcoming spaces where people can receive relief services, medical assistance, vocational training, schooling, peace education for their children, and employment. Today, Basmeh & Zeitooneh has two community centers in Beirut’s most populated refugee camps, Burj Al Barajneh and Shatila. The centers have emerged as a focal point not only for refugees but for the entire local community. In Beirut alone, more than 18,000 individuals are benefiting from Basmeh & Zeitooneh’s work. Because we work inside the camps, we are able to observe and cater to needs as they arise. We believe our program’s success stems from our intimate relationship with the refugees we serve. Welcome to Basmeh & Zeitooneh. Whether you’re looking to help us or simply to learn more about our work and the people we serve, you should find what you need here on our website.
