A Personal Design Philosophy

I’ve been wrestling with my own perception and ideas of what design should be. This has been sparked by frequent arguments online amongst the design community. I wrote these down as I continued to think about what design means to me. Feel free to steal, remix, destroy or add to this.

1. Design is fun.

2. Design is humble.

3. Design is thoughtful.

4. Design takes its time.

5. Design empowers others.

6. Design evokes emotion.

7. Design is helpful.

8. Design is clear and concise.

Obviously I also adhere to Dieter Rams’ 10 Principles of Good Design as well. This is my personal take on what design is.
