Congrats to you, France

Citizens of France, Je suis fier de vous. I’ve always admired you since I began learning your language at the age of six, and you left quite an everlasting impression on me 11 years ago when I briefly stepped foot on your soil.

But I still love the U.S., even though this patriotic land of mine turns its back on those who favor the Founding Fathers democracy over capitalism, race, and creed.

I always tell people that we must remember that the U.S. is a young nation that will eventually make the same mistakes that far older countries like those in Europe have made.

Now, after witnessing this past weekend’s election in France, I’ve noticed just how influential the Young Fading White Brother of Nations can be.

I don’t know much about the recently elected president of France, Emmanuel Macron, other than he’s the youngest elected, he’s a centrist, and he’s never held a seat in office. These qualities added up to an impossible win against his far-right competitor, but if the world learned nothing from Trump’s victory, he made the impossible — possible.

From my shallow view, Macron seems like a mashup of good qualities from Bernie Sanders, Barack Obama, and even Donald Trump.

He’s as passionate as Bernie when it comes to the people, full of hope (and youthful) like Obama, and he’s an outsider much like Trump. His only downfall may be his inexperience paired with who he knows. Trump may be inexperienced in the political game, but he had 70+ years of privilege and a billion dollar business to make some powerful connections.

Unlike the U.S., the people of France know their long history, and they chose not to repeat it this time. Factor that in with the mad circus that was the 2016 U.$. presidential election, along with its devastating consequences, Macron was destined to win.

Hopefully, the rest of the world will look to France, and study the mistakes my homeland has made. Soon enough, if the world allows it, the strong young nation that once had brains will mature into an old country like France.
