Capitalism is only one facet of what keeps our societies running and growing, and claims that they’re “0n the verge of collapse” are laughably over exaggerated to the point of which I can only assume one would have to be an extreme pessimist that seems the sky falling at every turn to actually believe such lunacy.
The truth is that we don’t live in a purely capitalistic or democratic society, or hell a purely anything society, we live under a hybridized model our forefathers were wise enough to lay the groundwork for, and while it’s not perfect, it’s by far the best thing to come down the pike yet.
Smart societies pull good ideas and incorporate them into themselves, but what’s good for one isn’t always good for the next, so there’s no magic formula or wand to wave for this kinda stuff. Capitalism isn’t “Dickslapping the planet”, bad people are, the same bad people who’d be doing whatever they could get away with under any other societal setup.
People may or may not be “socialists” for a wide variety of reasons, not the least of which is that socialism is the precursor to ushering in communism, and as others have pointed out neither system has a history of working very well in most of its various incarnations throughout history.
But maybe you’re one of those people who likes to claim #notrealsocialism / #notrealcommunism when people bring up people like stalin / mao / pol pot / castro (much smaller fish) etc. In which case it would seem like the bad adults got to you first and filled your head full of utopian fantasies.
