The 76ers Innovation Lab

Did you ever think a startup incubator would come out of a professional basketball team? Me neither. When the team is playing piss poor, seats in the stadium aren’t getting filled and revenue is down, why not just fund some start ups?! The CEO of the 76ers thought just that (sort of). Lucky start ups not only get to work from the stadium, they get access to free marketing and legal consultations and can even test out their product at the games — just for a small-ish piece of equity to the team. From a startup side, that’s a pretty damn good deal. From the 76ers side its a bargain, but could be big if you play your cards right.

Thought Starter: What would this look like at your company? How could you develop a mutually beneficial relationship with a relevant startup?
