I regret the loss of things I gave away voluntarily, which is why I’d never make a good monk. And new cars or sofas were never the same quality as the originals. I gave away other things that can’t be replaced, and can’t understand what I was thinking. Deliberate loss sometimes feels harder than something that was lost through no fault of my own.
