How to reach “Bhootathankettu Dam” ?
While you travel from Cochin to Munnar, Stop at Kothamangalam Town. Then take deviation to “Bhootathankettu Dam” which is about 11Km. Buses, AutoRickshaws, Taxis also available on request. Refer the line diagram given below.
I visited “Bhootathan Kettu Dam” located near Kothamangalam town, 10km far. It is a beautiful dam with a beautiful forest area nearby. There is a beautiful boating facility nearby. There is “Thattekkadu Bird Sanctuary” nearby. The dam is located on the periyar river.

There is a childrens park near the dam. It is well maintained. The boating will cost Rs.200/ per person.
A trekk in the forest will cost Rs.50/ per person and Rs.200/ per person for foreign national.
Walking through the forest was a wonderful experience. When you walk about 1 km inside the forest, you will find a frest watch tower and periyar river bank with rocks.
If you are coming to Munnar from Cochin, get down at Kothamangalam town, then go to Bhoothathankettu dam, just 10 km away. There are many resorts nearby where you can stay.
I went to Bhoothathankettu dam along with NITHIN, who was my neighbour. He worked in Middle east before returning to Kerala. He was very enthusiastic while on the trip and kept explaining to me about the location. He had visited the area when he was a child.
