As per the recent report by the #RBI (with data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s Annual Survey of Industries), #Tamilnadu accounts for >15% of all factories in India.

As of FY20, Tamil Nadu’s 38,837 factories were over 10,000 more than Gujarat’s 28,479 — even though Gujarat shows a 82% rise in the no of factories in the last decade against Tamil Nadu’s 45%. While TN accounts for 15.7% of all factories, Gujarat’s share is about 11.5%, with Maharashtra at the third place with 10.3%, Andhra Pradesh coming fourth with 6.8%, and Uttar Pradesh at 6.5% being the fifth.

Beyond its strong Automobile manufacturing capabilities, the state Tamil Nadu has diversified its manufacturing sector to components, electronics, textiles, chemicals, leather and non-leather manufacturing. The emergence of the #electronicsmanufacturing sector due to investments by #Pegatron, #Foxconn and #TataElectronics (recent investment of Rs 4,700-crore) — has boosted the state’s electronics manufacturing sector.

In all, manufacturing accounts for a third of Tamil Nadu’s projected GDP of $320.3 billion by FY23. The sector now hopes to account for 40% of its projected trillion-dollar economy by 2030.
