I missed out on Bitcoins rise and I don’t care

This morning is the sort of morning for which the greeting “Good morning” was invented for.

As I type this its 6am in Johannesburg and the bitcoin price has shot up to close to 400 USD and all those clever startup people in San Fransisco and other far flung corners of the world are probably still sleeping. I am sitting on my porch wondering whether they will be buying or selling when they wake up. However as I read the morning news I start to notice a few things….

Here right now the sun is chasing the nights dew away. The air is still cool and crisp. The bees are flitting through the lavender. I fleetingly think its a bit sad that bees, which contribute so much to our world, don’t get to have a Sunday off but the feeling soon passes.

A cockerel is crowing across the valley. The dogs are snorting and shuffling as they engage in mock battles to stretch their stiff muscles. A whistling duck flies overhead whistling to her friends that it’s time to go swimming. There’s a faint perfume lingering in the air from the ‘yesterday today and tomorrow’ bush which is just behind me. The day is filled with promise and…the bitcoin price is way UP from where it was a few days ago.

I sold yesterday before the latest price surge….So my small amount of bitcoins are currently safely stored in Dollars. I have therefore missed much of the price rise and guess what…..I don’t care because it’s a GOOD morning.

After all bitcoins real utility is ultimately not as an investment. Price volatility is fun but it’s a distraction. The real job at hand is to make it so that Bitcoin helps to create financial inclusion for our poorer communities. Bitcoins price volatility is a distraction.

The price rise is a distraction from this GOOD morning so If like me you missed out, ignore it, switch off your tech devices to see if this GOOD morning can turn into a GOOD day.
