Back on Medium — 018
Heyo, I’m back with blogging. I created a new account just now before realizing I still have this account.
I’m conflicted between writing using my real name and with a pseudonym. I want the benefits of personal branding without the downsides. Let’s see how this works.

In my head, here are the things I want to write about
- Personal branding
- Digital marketing + video marketing
- Side hustling as a tarot reader
- Running a book club
- Event management for small performance art groups
- Books I’ve read
- Podcasts I’m listening to.
Basically, everything that I’ve been doing but in a healthy salad of a blog.
People say the riches is in the niches; that without a focus, people would be super distracted.

But real life doesn’t work that way. We’re not niched human beings (well, some people are but they’re probably not reading Medium).
I’m also afraid that writing all these down would label me as a flake.
More than one employment person had told me so.
One of the reasons I’m afraid of putting this blog out is that I was burnt. My ex-boss would say mean things when I posted something new on my personal blog during the weekend, or when it appeared as scheduled.
It wasn’t easy juggling “work” and “non-work”, especially in the eyes of employers.
But during my recent interviews, I’ve been more aggressive about noting how my personal blog had helped me gain skills that I wouldn’t have at my official job.
Though this blog post is from 2007, I still think that a blog is a powerful tool to help your personal branding.
Of course you don’t need to set up a separate blog to do it. Social networks such as LinkedIn and Medium connects your articles to a much wider audience.
Still, if you want to be serious about personal branding, set up a one-page website and link out to your Medium articles. Or post it on your personal page first then post a Medium piece that links back.
These are really topics that can be expanded.
I’ll be back.
