Being in a startup is like being in a band

Building the team is forming the band: Do you play the same note? Do you feel a great connection? You need to assemble a crew of like-minded people who enjoy creating beautiful things together.

Prototyping is rehearsing: You don’t go live on day one. You need to craft something, let people play with it, then iterate. You need creative guys who want to help out and build a great product.

Launching is playing live: Your product sounds great, your friends love it, getting the word out there. It’s time to go live, burn the stage and make the crowd go crazy.

Backstage celebration: Proud of your team performance? Go party. Running a startup is emotionally hard. Each step forward counts. Every victory, even the smallest one, is important.

A member leaving is complicated: It could happen and it would be tough. The team is everything.

Become a rock star, stay underground or absolutely unknown: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram are rock stars. But it is one in a million. 999,999 don’t go mainstream or just fail. That’s the hard knock life.

Groupies: Oh…you need to be a rockstar for that.

I am proud to be a founding member of the Whyd band. Rock on guys!
