#1 Reason People Don’t Recognize Their Gifts and Talents (And How to Change That!)
Discover your innate gifts and share them with the world
I have never met a stranger.
(Stick with me, this story will demonstrate how you can recognize your own gifts!)
You might call people you don’t know strangers, but to me, they’re friends I haven’t met yet. Walking into a room full of “strangers” gives me energy and makes my heart beat even faster with excitement. I love getting to know people, listening to their stories, having interesting conversations, and getting to know them more intimately — what brings them to life from the inside out.
I have this incredible gift to speak to anyone with ease and tremendous joy… And I didn’t recognize it as a gift. I assumed everyone had this ability to feel comfortable around anyone they met, thrilled walking into a room full of strangers or totally ease striking up a conversation with new people.
But I was so wrong!
It wasn’t until I met my husband, who is the complete opposite of me that I realized my gift. My husband is a textbook introvert who prefers more alone time, intimate gatherings with close friends, and date night.
And herein lies the #1 reason you may not recognize your gifts — you believe that if it comes easy to you, then it’s most likely not unique and, therefore, not a real gift!
Or maybe you recognize your gifts but ignore them for various reasons: to fit in, avoid unwanted attention, let someone else shine, make others feel more comfortable, or because you were told to ignore them.
I dismissed this talent. I believed that I couldn’t call it a gift if I didn’t work hard.. Once I realized how wrong this was, I went on an epic journey of self-discovery and found many more gifts waiting to be discovered.
It has been and incredible journey getting reacquainted with my innate gifts that I can share with others. What a fulfilling way to live! I get to do what comes so naturally, effortlessly to me and help others spread their magic.
Steve Harvey says it well, in his article Act Like a Success, Think Like A Success, “Your whole life will have new meaning and direction when you recognize your gift and decide upon the most valuable way to use it.”
But enough about me, now I want to talk about you. You have unique gifts given to you from birth. You came into this world with them imprinted on your soul. It’s time to recognize them and live through them.
Deep down, you know what your gifts are, but I will walk you through an exercise to help you get there a little faster.
Make sure you’re in a quiet, peaceful place with no distractions. Okay, I want you to imagine a table full of beautifully wrapped gifts all addressed to you. You reach across the table for your first present and begin unwrapping. Once you untie the bow and clear away the wrapping paper, you’re stunned by what you find.
The box’s contents cast a golden glow on your face and immediately warm you with joy. For not only is this a wonderful gift for yourself, but it is even better when shared with others. It just keeps on giving to you and the world.
What are these gifts, you ask?
Well, it’s what comes naturally to you, wrapped up in pretty boxes with bows. As you unwrap one gift, more appear, and as you dig into one package, you discover more and more as if it’s bottomless. These gifts are incredibly abundant by nature and continue to appreciate as time passes.
What natural gifts have come up for you during this exercise? Like a child with an endless supply of birthday presents, I want you to play with your gifts, experiment with them, and share them with others. You’ll see that you come alive with purpose as you embody and appreciate in your gifts.
And when people witness you living through your gifts, they’ll be inspired and in awe of you. Sharing your gifts allows others to also appreciate and be in awe of your gifts and talents. You afford them the freedom to connect with their gifts.
Yes, your gifts are that powerful and valuable to the world.
“You carry within you certain qualities and attributes that contribute to society. You do matter. Your life matters. Everything you do has an impact.” Tris Thorp, Self-Worth: 5 Ways to Identify Your Unique Gifts.
You are here for a specific purpose and your gifts were given to you to live out that purpose during this lifetime! The sooner you recognize and use your gifts, the sooner you align with your calling.
So start exploring your gifts today. Don’t wait to start playing with your endless supply of gifts. If you need additional support exploring your gifts, book a call with me to see if we’d be a good fit. After all, helping my clients recognize their gifts is what I do best!
