Transmission Fluid: Do I Have to Worry About It?

When was the list time you had your transmission oil changed in your vehicle. Many of us have our engine oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, but did you know that the oil in your transmission should also be changed on a regular basis to ensure your transmission is performing at an optimum level.

Many manufactures recommend that the transmission fluid that is in the vehicle is a lifetime fill and does not need to be changed at all. Some manufacture recommend only changing the transmission oil only after 150,000 miles have been driven. However, these recommendations are based on climates that do not fluctuate significantly throughout the year. Here in Wisconsin, we recommend having your transmission fluid changed every 30,000 due to extreme weather conditions. In Wisconsin, we have temperatures that range from -40 degrees to 90 degrees in a 12 month period of time. This can be very strenuous on a vehicle.

If you are not sure if your vehicle needs a transmission repair, bring it to your local transmission specialist, like the one East Side Transmission, to have the fluid color checked. Below is a guide to what color your transmission fluid should or could look like.
