Joel chapter 1 — take away
Joel 1:15 “Alas, for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.”. Joel was the first to write about That Day. He used a local plague to describe God’s judgment on a people who turn away from him. Then he prophesies of a day in the future that will be worse and will be so bad nothing will every compare to it.
The way he describes how a swarm of locusts come to destroy is how it will be in the Day of the Lord. He talks of an army without number. In verse 17 he talks of the crops drying up and of famine. Verse 18 he talks of fire that will devour the grasses and burn up all the trees. In verse 19 he describes the rivers drying up.
Some commentaries say Joel is describing what happens in a local plague, and some say he is describing the beginning of the Apocalypse. To me it seems more like the latter rather than the former.
