Honor View 20 with 48MP Camera & Display hole launched in India
Gone are the days of Notch, Honor kickstarted the new year 2019 with a display hole design. Honor has taken the first step in embedding the camera in a small hole in the display. Honor View 20 is the first flagship device of 2019 with a 48MP rear 3D camera and a 25MP front-facing camera.
Honor View 20 Design
The Honor View 20 is the first device to incorporate the FullView display with a 25MP front-facing camera in a 4.5mm cutout in the top left corner. Honor explains that there are 18 layers in the screen, only 2 layers at the bottom are drilled to make room for the camera.
Honor uses a pixel transitioning technique which is used to allow the light to penetrate through without a hole in the liquid crystal layer. The camera module sits directly under the Light Guide Plate (LGP) to make the process in-line.
Many smartphone manufacturers have come up with new innovative solutions to eliminate the notch such as sliding smartphones, dual displays, and pop-up front cameras. Leading smartphone manufacturer Samsung also announced a device with a display hole, the Samsung Galaxy A8s. But there is a difference, while Huawei used a pixel transitioning technique to make a 4.5mm hole, Samsung had to drill a 6mm hole in the display.
Huawei is known for their stylish colors and designs and with Honor View 20 it has become more evident. There is a laser etched reflective V pattern. Honor View 20 will be offered in Honor’s signature Sapphire blue color along with Red and Black.
There is a fingerprint sensor at the back and a camera module on the top left corner with flash. The camera module houses a 48MP primary and a secondary camera lens for depth sensing.
At the front, there is a 6.4-inch Full-HD+ FullView IPS display. Bezels are minimal with a small chin at the bottom.
Honor View 20 Specifications
Honor has launched its first flagship of the year with one of the Huawei’s best Kirin 980 chipset. As per the benchmarks, the Kirin 980 chipset won’t face any competition until Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 855 is released. The View 20 also comes with GPU Turbo 2.0 for an enhanced gaming experience.
The selfie cutout is not the only unique thing about this phone. The View 20 is one of the first devices in the world to use Sony’s IMX 586 sensor for a 48MP camera. There is a 3D camera with TOF (Time of Flight) sensor next to the 48MP sensor for depth sensing and for Virtual Reality objects.
The front cut-out hides in a 25MP camera under the display. Honor has included a third WiFi antenna below the volume down button for better reception while using the phone in landscape. There is an IR Blaster at the top of the smartphone with 3.5mm audio jack and a Dual Band GPS for better location tracking.
The View 20 will be available with a 6GB/8GB RAM variant and packs in a 128GB/256GB internal storage. It also supports expandable storage up to 256GB via micro SD cards.
Moving on to the battery, the Honor View 20 comes with a 4,000mAh battery which comes with Honor’s 5V/4A Fast charger. This is not the same 40W SuperCharge technology which comes with Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro, but honor claims that the device can be charged up to 55% in 30 minutes.
The Honor View 20 also uses an AI Liquid cooling system called The Nine to provide optimum thermal balance during heavy usage.

Honor lays a lot of emphasis on the design of their smartphones to make them look unique. The Honor View 20 has a unique aesthetic design which reflects light in a V from the back.
The phone will go on sale starting 29th January 2018 in India via Amazon. However, you can already Pre-Book the phone for Rs 1000. Honor is also giving a free Honor Sport BT earphones worth Rs 2,999 on Pre-Booking. If the rumors are to be believed, the View 20 will be priced somewhere between Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000.
