I admire your work and am a fan of your articles. I own a digital consultancy and a startup and use technology & Social media extensively.
Your whole article and view is based on your experience of American society and hence is very narrow. I have traveled to places where there is no cell phone coverage and no Internet. Have met the most amazing wise, happy , knowledgable self sufficient people practising sustainable lives living in those places. Incredible families and communities lacking nothing. (From a western perspective lacking everything)
Technology is an enabler and will always be. To say that technology is life itself is very limiting. Rich experiences and awesome relationships exist outside of Social Media. Immersing oneself in stunning nature is so fulfilling peaceful and cannot be duplicated by anything online.
Children should be taught to balance technology and things outside of technology to have a rich life.Social media may not ruin millennial’s lives. But they will be living a very limiting life with their phones as their crutches. Leaving your phone behind at times gives you happiness, being in the moment and inner peace. It needs to be experienced to fully understand life.
