Hello. I’m Giulia. I was born in 1972. (Hi, Giulia.) I’m a Generation X-er who got most of the references in Ready Player One and enjoyed it immensely, while all the time being aware of its flaws.
I had every reason to believe that Spielberg would actually improve on my reading experience, if only because he possesses what Cline definitely lacks: mastery of language. Cline is a poor writer. Spielberg is a great director.
So why did I not like the trailer?

Easy. Because I expected it to look like ’80s Spielberg, and it didn’t. I wanted it to preserve the ’80s feel of the book, and although of course I know that a 2044 version of Second Life would look way cooler and more immersive than the original version of Second Life (which did look cool at the start), I still thought that Halliday would somehow try to preserve the grainy look-and-feel of ’80s visual products. Because that was his world and the world he wanted to live in.
The Oasis looks like Transformers on steroids and suddenly I’m not so keen on the whole operation anymore.

Sorry.
