Environmental problems are indeed one of the biggest man-made problems that mankind should face. To solve this problem, many people will agree that we should plant more trees and preserve forests.
However, how many people actually plant trees? Probably not so many.
“How can I make people plant more trees?”
This is the simple question, which made Hyeong-Su Kim, CEO of the Tree Planet, to come up with his social venture. Now he’s the man who planted 700,000 trees all around the world, and he’s going to plant even more!
2. Innovation: plant trees while playing games
In Tree Planet, You can play games and plant real trees to make forests around the globe. While you’re playing the game for free, you can send the trees to the places, like Mongol, Brazil, or Indonesia, and the real trees are going to be planted with your message attached.
How can you plant trees for free?
Tree Planet gets advertisement fee from big companies and they put the company logo and their products in the background of the game. That’s how Tree Planet made 1100,000 users plant trees for free!
The company started in 2010 and it already made 170 forests in 12 countries with 1100,000 users. Treeplanet is also working with NGO and helping them save their cost and effort to make funds to preserve forests and prevent desertification. Getting recognized for the contribution, the TreePlanet has been awarded some honorable prizes.
3. Make Your Farm: The Coffee Forest
By planting trees, Tree Planet is also helping the people in the region to have a better life. Working with KOIKA( KoreaInternational Cooperation Agency) by running a campaign called ‘Make Your Farm’, Tree planet helps Nepali people restore their coffee farms, which were destroyed in the earthquake.
Not only they are helping with planting more coffee trees, they are also helping them to produce better coffee by education and techniques, so that they can make more profit. The revenue from the coffee farm is going to be used for better education for the children. Some global companies like WeWork are also supporting this campaign.
4. The Star Forests: fans planting trees
Star Forest is also a brilliant campaign carried out with the collaboration of Tree Planet and the Fan clubs of the celebrity. Fan clubs voluntarily make a fundraising inside the club to make a forest and celebrate their star’s birthday. Fans buy the land and the trees to make a forest named after their beloved idol group. They are also becoming a famous attraction, with fans from other nations coming to visit and see how the forests are thriving.
“Recently, I went to see the forest and saw young fans from Hong-Kong and Taiwan cleaning the forest. I realized how the Star-forest can change the culture of the fan club in a positive way, and how much the teenagers and people from other countries care about the environment.”

5. Green Future
Tree Planet is consistently bringing up meaningful campaigns and making more forests, such as ‘Memorial Forests in Nan-jing, China for the Comfort Women’, ‘Planting Trees in Mountain Baek-du(North Korea)’, ‘Partner Trees’, and etc. They’ve already made a big contribution to the world, but still stretching out their realm and making the world a better place. Tree Planet’s current goal is to reach 10,000,000 and there are still plenty of land on earth where it needs more trees. With the power of innovation and people’s kind heart for the environment
