It’s been a blast following Rhett on his fitness journey with us the past few months. He’s taken 43 Gixo classes so far, and never fails to amaze us with his unceasing determination. If you see him in class, send him a “let’s race” emoji message. He loves a little friendly competition. That is when he’s not taking art-gallery-worthy photos during the break. We caught up with Rhett to learn a bit more about his Gixo journey.

So, Rhett, you’ve already hit the classes hard. What’s your fitness goal for 2018?

I’d love to continue bringing my mile time down. I also joined a local gym so I could start incorporating weights into my training.

When and how do you like to Gixo?

I usually take Gixo classes during my lunch break — preferably on a running trail or at a local park. But I like to randomly squeeze in morning and evening classes as well. My wife and I have three kids, ages four and under. We have to work together — one person watches the kids while the other works out. To me, that’s the beauty of Gixo. It always fits into my crazy busy schedule.

How has Gixo changed your workouts?

The fact that I have a personal trainer at my fingertips — anytime I want to workout, no matter where I am — has definitely been a game changer!

What’s been your most memorable Gixo moment so far?

The craziest thing happened to me! I was running in an Endurance Class on a popular trail where I live. The trail follows along the path of a river, and it’s a pretty steep drop-off to the river from the trail. After the halfway point of the Endurance Class, I turned around to head back and noticed a boy stuck in the river beside me. He was crying and couldn’t pull his bike out of the water because of the currents. Thankfully I was able to jump in and help him get to safety. I ran the last 2 miles in waterlogged shoes!

Wow, that’s going above and beyond class expectations! So, of all the coaches you’ve worked with, who are you most similar to?

I would have to say Coach Aaron. He seems to love running as much as I do!

True, True. What’s your favorite pre-run/workout meal?

A hard-boiled egg! I tend to keep it simple before I workout so that I don’t cramp up.

Truth time. How often do you find yourself singing along in a Gixo class?

Usually I’m gasping for air — there’s not much room to sing! But if I were to sing, it would be during a 90’s Pop class.

If you had to create a Gixo class, what would it be like and what music would be playing?

My class would be a 50-minute indoor workout, filled with one-minute burnouts of different exercises. It would have an on-camera feature where you’re able to see a grid of anyone else taking the class with you as encouragement to push through the pain together.

The playlist: Let Go by Set for the Fall; Set if Off by Skillet; Say it Again by XXI; Beyond the Stars by Spoken; Easy Way Out by Southbound Fearing; Taking Back by About a Mile.

Love it! I’d sign up for sure. Thanks for your enthusiasm and cheers to you, Rhett, for always bringing your A-game. See you in class…soon!
