“Do I know you?” she asked, eyes weary and half-open.
He smiled at her. She felt a warmth in that smile that she couldn’t understand. She hadn’t noticed him until he appeared at her table, looking down at her. She had felt an immediate surge of anger pulse through her and jerked her head up to tell him to get lost, but the words died on her lips.
She stared into brown eyes gazing at her, unblinking. How did she find herself in these places? Why hadn’t she shown him her fangs?
She felt the anger rising again as he stood there silent, smiling at her. What was he smiling at? She was invisible, how could he even see her? No one else did.
“I like your shoes,” he said through that smile that never left his face. That anagged at her memory. Was it him? She scowled and looked down, taking in her faded lilac shoes… Hadn’t they been a different color earlier? Brighter color, deeper shade of purple. They seemed brighter as she looked, but faded as she realized it couldn’t be true.
