A Survival Guide for Young Professionals
- by
Glen Elkins

Introduction

You just graduated college. After dedicating the last handful of years to papers, exams and endless note-taking, you now have the onerous task of being an “adult” in the “real world” before you.

Soon, the familiar every-day problems of strict professors, heavy course loads, and homework will be replaced with a new set unfamiliar difficulties.

This is your survival guide.
It’s full of common pitfalls and how to overcome them.

This text aims to help prepare for the new world by highlighting some of the things I went through after graduating, and throughout the first few years of my professional career. Much like the first few years of college, staring your career is filled with “firsts”:

  • A new (and long) daily commute
  • Your first wave of job interviews
  • Your first mentor
  • Your first promotion!

Do people really sit in traffic for 40 minutes everyday? How do people even get a job with no experience? Can’t people see that I’m a fraud? When can I stop worrying that I’ll be fired?

If you’ve ever wondered these questions, this is for you.

Are you part of this year’s graduating class? Or are you a hiring manager with a team of fresh recruits? If so, it would be tremendous if you helped spread this eBook to your friends & teammates.
