How does the Earth move through space?
Ethan Siegel

Ethan — you've ruined my nice Copernican model of the solar system. It was pretty much the orrery. That nice steam punk Victorian mechanism with balls of several sizes, driven by clockwork, whirling around an orange sun. In just an instant a veil was lifted and now I see the Earth and its planet posse flying parallel corkscrew spirals in formation. All this is disconcerting. It’s good the knowledge has been administered in small doses over five hundred years.
