The moments when historic events become known are seldom appreciated at the time by the mass of humanity. There were thousands or tens of thousands watching the webcast from the NSF the morning of the 11th of February, but most people were unaware that anything important had been announced. The detection of Gwaves (lets coin the term early….it will save lots of typing in the future) is important, very important. It has been explained as a new window for astronomy. I think it represents something greater, something transcendent. A person given a new window looks out at the world with eyes they’ve used to look thru other windows, tinted windows, small windows, windows with old glass that distort. This is more like adding a new sense to the five we had. Electromagnetic astronomy is an extension of our eyes. Gwave astronomy creates a totally new sense. Its like adding telepathy to our suite of senses. Congratulations to the projects involved. Thanks to Professor Fisher for his overview.
