Determination of the Location

As an avid advocate for Compass to Campus when sponsoring, it is an acquisition to find suitable location to engage possible mentors. The university ambiance is relevant to the necessity in searching for mentors to children in middle school. Red Square is located on the north side of Western Washington University’s campus, surrounded by four major educational buildings: Humanities, Bond Hall, Miller Hall, and Haggard Hall. The center ground importance for these educational buildings is that there is an ultimate popular passage for students traveling to and from classes. The dominant north and south dormitories for on campus-living students are centered towards the mainstream route leading to Red Square. The generous amount of people made Red square ideal to set up my informational booth due to the captivating social environment. The large crowds of students engaged in my educational prospects constructed great opportunities to have conversations regarding Compass to Campus.

“captivating social environment”

The fountain is an attractive and popular spot at Red Square generated by the available seating and glorious sweeping view one would receive from sitting on the ledge. Entering Red Square people undoubtably glimpse at the fountain because of the large size and the centralized location of it within the square. The largess of the fountain greatly worked in my favor of directing vision to my table to the bustling students. Arriving at Red Square was an overflow of students along every edge and corner enabling straight forward communication of information about events or happenings with the students right then and there. The benefits of the perimeter of the fountain was the large, thick ledge producing venue for the information booth. As well as providing seating in proximity to my table. I was able to acknowledge people coming from the two major entrances into Red Square, allowing my booth to be in tunnel vision of students attracting communication. The region of being at the fountain was ideal within Red Square because it was not disruptive with the flow of traffic but more realistically provided an excuse to leave the flow. Investing time in a popular grounded spot can ease communication with people. If you loose one person, no worries another person is around the corner.

“fast communication”

Atmosphere creates an unsaid tempo of people’s subconscious minds. The captivating social atmosphere exhibited at Red Square produced people to be cheerful and collective. Observing the community of practice appeared largely on students interest in each other. As one friend group gathered around my table another would walk over next. Setting candy around the information pamphlets eyed students to wander over with curiosity to my booth. I like the environment of Red Square form the smiling faces of students lounging on the lawn to the chatter of others at the tables. The social atmosphere can gather to any type of both as long as you maintain a enthusiastic aura.

Towards the end of the day, the population of students passing through the square decreased. The class schedules set an unannounced hourly rush, after four pm red square’s population dwindles drastically. Since red square is completely outside, the community can be controlled by the forecast of Bellingham. When planning an event in red square the weather is important to note because on days when the skies are obliterated by rain or wind red square is likely to be completely vacant.

All in all, whether you are trying to form an event within your campus or trying to start a club; location and population are keys to spreading information in mass amounts. Red square provides a location that is open to the public as well as a structured socializing ground for all members of Western Washington’s community. The university setting catered to the magnitude of conversation with individual students of the campus. When the crowds would be very large and I would only speak my main ideas, but at other times when the crowds were smaller I was able to have intimate conversations delivering in depth information about Compass to Campus. Compared to other locations, red square provides the most accessible location for students to arrive at because it is connected to every angle of campus weather they are coming from the north or south side. The intentions of traveling through red square are practically inevitable which constitutes the best location for my booth enable to spread information at mass amounts.
