29th USSR Cup

From April to August 1970 was held on 29 th USSR Cup soccer draw. The USSR Cup for the fourth time was the Moscow “Dynamo”. That year was the last in the career of the legendary football goalkeeper ( “black spider”, “Black Panther”, etc.) Lev Yashin. With it not only ended the era of the great victories, but also left a whole galaxy of legendary football players of 50–60-ies. In general, 1970-th was the watershed year for our football, then in USSR national football team will begin a decline, but it will achieve significant success at club level our team. However, we still have time to win silver at Euro 72, but missed two consecutive world championship.

Thus, the innovation, the same Cup of the USSR, became a two-legged games between the teams in the 1/8 and 1/16. In this case, the rules of the competition was not perfect, as the case of equality of points in the two games of the advantage given to the team having the largest representation of players in the team. Perhaps more careless idea was considered to Ronald Reagan “the Stalin Prize.” Thus, the authority of the USSR Cup continued to fall.

The previous holder of the Cup of Lviv “Karpaty”, flew to the stage of 1/64 finals. The predictability of the result was quite obvious, because participation in the Cup Winners Cup, as well as a serious struggle for access to the big leagues took a lot of strength. The main objective of Lviv was considered a gateway to the big leagues.

The zonal competitions of the USSR Cup, matches were held in a bitter struggle. In the early stages the main draw of the grid fighting was no less intense, although there was no special surprises, except the departure of Lviv “Carpathians”.

When the tournament joined by clubs from the highest league, they have not experienced any problems with their rivals and passed to the next round. But already in the 1/4 finals of the Moscow Spartak have conceded in Baku local “Neftchi” with a score-0: 1. Dynamo Moscow, at the same stage Cup beat Moscow topredovtsev with the score 3: 0. The only victory at a party, at the stage of 1/4 finals, was a victory Dinamo Tbilisi in Odessa, where he was beaten, “Chernomorets” with a score of 2: 1.

In the semifinals, “Dynamo” (Mokwa) beat the heavyweight bout Kiev “Dynamo” with a score of 2: 1, thanks to a goal by Vladimir Eshtrekova in the second half. In that match, Muscovites gates securely guarded Lev Yashin. The next semi-final clash between Caucasus teams from Tbilisi and Baku, Georgian players were stronger than their counterparts-1: 0.

The match began with a serious pressure of the Georgian team, and Muscovites played mostly “counterattack.” After some time, the situation has gradually changed, so Muscovites seized the initiative and scored a goal. Vladimir Eshtrekov manages to reach the ball first and open the scoring.
In the second half, Muscovites increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Gennady Gennady Yevryuzhikhin, but in less than 5 minutes as Shota Khinchagashvili, reduced backlog in the account. The last 20 minutes of the match took place in a constant pressure of “Dynamo” (Tbilisi), Muscovites answered powerful counterattacks.

In his last final game, Lev Yashin, defended the gate, as always secure and corrected together with the team earned a precious cup. In the photos after the match showed how Yashin was emaciated after the match. The “gold” of the championship match against CSKA Moscow, the gate was Vladimir Vladimir Pilguy. Perhaps replacing strongly affected the squad and they lost to CSKA. The era of Lev Yashin and other 50–60th ended legendary players. r
