Lovely and honest post, Matt. I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life and paradoxically been a lifelong fitness lover (first gym membership was the local YMCA aged 17). I have realised that, as a social person, group fitness is what I respond to best. The camaraderie of people around you working toward the same goal is hugely helpful – for me. (Have a look at my Instagram where I post about all of my incredibly supportive trainers and fellow class participants. These are the people in my life that genuinely want me to succeed – not just in fitness but in life!) Different things work for different people so don’t be discouraged if you don’t hit on the right approach for you immediately. Small changes make a big difference and will spur you on to keep going. And remember, it’s always going to be YOU vs YOU. Don’t compare yourself to other people and what they look like or what they can do.

You got this.
