Critical thinking growth has been encouraged by the Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development (Resnick, 1989, p. 2)
The field of critical thinking has advanced far beyond the beginning stages. Programs have been field tested using long term studies, and marketed. It is widely believed that critical thinking and strategies encourage more transference in the cognitive application of learning. (Ennis, 2985, Kruse, 1987; Rosen .1988; Brandt, 1989; Meeker, 1992; Lipman, 1980; Pogrow, 1988; )
“A process to monitor one’s own thinking about thinking” comes from definitions of metal cognition which have proven major basis of research in the field of Reading & Comprehension (Marzano, 1984) . Results of data analysis can be measured by the California Test of Basic Skills.
