For the last decade in my management career, I’ve been fascinated by Bob Iger’s leadership style. After his triumphant return to Disney recently, let’s revisit his memoir, The Ride of a Lifetime, together.

Iger’s leadership principles include Optimism, Courage, Focus, Decisiveness, Curiosity, Fairness, Thoughtfulness, & Integrity.

CNBC’s Jim Cramer referred to him as one of his bankable 21 CEOs in his 2013 book ‘Get Rich Carefully’ saying;

“If you ever get to meet Bob, you will know instantly why he’s so amazing. He brings out the best in you, and he does so in a constructive yet competitive way.”

Bob grew up professionally at Capital Cities Communications and then rose through the ranks of ABC after the two companies merged.

Warren Buffett has lauded Tom Murphy, Bob Iger’s mentor at Capital Cities, as one of the greatest managers he knows. Murphy, at age 96, still serves on Berkshire Hathaway’s Board of Directors.

Eventually Bob took over as CEO at Disney (which owns ABC) in October of 2005, recently returning to duty after a brief retirement.
