My sister, the serial killer.

My sister, the serial killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite.

Its another Saturday, another review by Glory of Glorysvoice.

A story surrounding murder and family.

My sister, the serial killer is a story of a young lady named Korede and her younger sister named Ayoola.

Ayoola kills and Korede does the cleanup.

Ayoola is a young lady who murders her lovers, or should i say they always end up dead one way or the other but mostly by a knife. She stabs them. And her elder sister who is a clean freak is always there to clean up the blood from the scene and dump the body where it wont be found.

Korede and Ayoola relationship is a very weird one. Ayoola is a very pretty lady and Korede is not as pretty as Ayoola.

(The description of Korede in this book did not depict ugly to me btw.) Korede harbours resentment towards Ayoola for committing these crimes, for putting her in a tough spot, but she is there to clean up the blood and dump the bodies everytime it happens. She's also confused on how to feel towards her sister because she knows this is wrong. Then there is the relationship with their mother, it felt like her mother gave birth to Korede only because she felt someone had to look out for Ayoola.

At first i thought someone else was doing the murders because by the time Korede gets to the scene the person is already dead.

So at the point it had been established that Ayoola was really a murderer in this book, i began to wonder about the victims. Why did she kill them yunno? The author denied us the knowledge of this information. The only info given was about the first victim. According to Korede, He was a slimy and creepy fellow. The others, we have nothing on why they are murdered. Well Ayoola did say they tried to hurt her first and she acted in self defense but later in the book there will be some inconsistencies in her character that made me doubt that claim.

Korede is a nurse and in the hospital she works, she has a huge crush on one of the doctors. His name is Tade. A doctor that sings and doesn’t seem to notice the googly eyes Korede makes towards him.

She has a confidant she confesses all her sins to in the hospital, but he's a patient in coma. His name is Muhtar.

Apparently hes close to the door of death already as he will soon placed off oxygen.

At this point, I just knew that he will wake up.

One day, Ayoola visits Korede at her workplace against Korede wishes, meets Tade her sister's crush.

You know at this point, i was like ok i would understand Ayoola feelings for her sister because at least if your sister has a crush on someone. Its your perogative not to like the person too.

Ayoola dates Tade to the horror and displeasure of Korede and me.

Korede was hurt and envious especially after she sees that Ayoola has been badmouthing her to Tade.

Jesus.

Muhtar woke up from coma but decides to keep Korede secret.

Korede was no longer envious of the relationship between Tade and Ayoola. She was scared Ayoola would kill Tade too.

She would try her best to sabotage their relationship so that the knife scene wont occur again but she failed..

The beginning of this book was so promising( of course,i am a thriller girlie) but there were so many inconsistencies and holes.

The characteristisation and plot was not excellent enough.

We do not see the offense of the victims, no scene for the murder which is literally the basis of the book. An epilogue would have been good for this.

Ayoola attitude towards her elder sister after all she has done for her is really weird, including her indifferent attitude towards the murders. Is she a psychopath? A mental disorder? A victim? Is she like their father?.

The author gave us little to no information.

Just a book on murder and a dysfunctional family.

Its a 3/10 for me.
