SHIFTING FOCI OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

Another lecture to refresh knowledge from reading assignment. But the process how modern design department in Aalto was formed is fascinating. Being a handcrafts school in end of 19 century, it switched to technical approach in 1960–70s and industrial design prevailed in 1980s, in 2000 with a rising need of UI and service design it focused on strategic design, followed by importance collaborative design in 2010. It’s no surprise that Finland is up to date in design field nowadays

This lecture was another reminder why I chose Aalto — innovative strategical thinking, multi-disciplinary collaborations and creation of fruitful symbiosys (like design+business=IDBM).
