Against Trump…

National Review is one of the first things I started reading when I started getting into politics hardcore. One of the main influences on my political thinking. National Review.com is still the first thing politically related I read just about every day. So, being an anti Trump Republican, I was pretty pleased to see that they are devoting a whole issue to the subject of stopping the raging dumpster fire that is the Donald Trump campaign.

While I appreciate the sentiment, as Donald Trump is doing enormous damage to both the conservative and Republican cause with his demagogic, race baiting campaign, I don’t think it’s going to have much of an effect. Sadly, the conservative movement isn’t nearly as intellectual or serious as it used to be. On top of that, many of Donald Trump’s supporters aren’t conservatives and Republicans, and thus don’t really care about the party or the conservative movement in general. Thirdly, how many Donald Trump fans have you encountered online or in person that are swayed by rational arguments and evidence? The number is very small, if it’s not zero. In short, most of the people who are inclined to read National Review, aren’t the type of people who would ever support Donald Trump’s campaign.

So while I enjoyed most of the pieces against Trump, I expect it to have little effect. Even though many people deplore Donald Trump, he has a strong following that is going to follow him to the end, no matter fierce the opposition against him is.
