Intimacy never really made it to social media

Facebook employees have a term for this decline in intimacy: “context collapse.” They say personal sharing has shifted to smaller audiences like messaging services.
Intimacy never made it to social media
While early adopter explored the limits of Facebook, the majority and late majority observed patiently. At the time the storytelling made it appear that our private moments, our intimacy was shifting on social media. But the majority did not let themselves fool by the story. Their intimacy was not going to be exposed online. Projection were never confirmed, Facebook, Twitter dominate the idea sharing world, Instagram the self presentation and Snapchat the live moments. None of that is real intimacy.
Private pictures & videos, intimate events & personal feeling never made it to social media. Messaging app instantly took over after SMS.
Until the next chapter, the battle is over, there is no coming back.
