Moving from suburban/rural MN to DC, I had forgotten the feeling of holding your breath after you tell someone you’re gay, pressure building in your chest until they respond. It’s strange to re-experience that as I now come out again — to the same people, to new people, to strangers — as trans. DC is one of the best places in the US for trans people but I am relearning that feeling of pressure, [never] fight, flight, or freeze…
