It is not just the aggressive screams from the players, but also hysterical cheers from the spectators during the tournament. No, not just ‘Boos’ or ‘Whoas!’ But chants. Yes, chants in the badminton arenas.

At the recently-concluded 2018 Asian Games, audience exposed their worship towards their icons regardless of players and their country.

Chant goes like,

Terus fokus, satu titik,

Hanya itu, titik itu,

Tetap fokus, kita kejar,

Dan raih bintang

It means, ‘Only focus on the target, that’s the only point, keep chasing your dreams, before reaching for the stars.’

Besides, the home crowd Indonesians were never shy to cheer, sing, and dance.

The intention behind singing or cheering is never intended to provoke the opponents but purelyportrayed a sign of encouragement. A spectator elucidates, “We don’t really believe in clapping. We sing because it not only channels our adrenaline in the right way, it also sends a message to our players down there that we are there for you,” as quoted by The New Indian Express.

“We get crazy for badminton but I think being crazy is worth it for this sport,” added.

Bronze medallist Saina Nehwal, said, “I love playing in front of their fans because they are always up for it, irrespective of the scoreline. I love the beats of the songs they play.” Being unbiased is the great attitude they carry.
