That’s very organized! You guys were a 40 person game studio, but working on a huge and impactful game, and perhaps that’s what tipped the balance in favor of more rigor.
That said, I do agree that many teams can benefit from speccing even at around ~50 employees, because that’s when what worked before starts to break down. I think your co-founder Mathilde Pignol put it well in our Twitter conversation yesterday, in that this is when it gets “hard to strike the right balance between spec writing and informal conversations…”.
