It’s Date Night! Getting It Right with Your Dress

So, you’re all rearing to go. You have your date; you know the destination…but wait! What are you going to do about your dress? Finding the right dress, and wearing it in the right way, is one of the biggest challenges of date night.

Don’t worry though. Today, we are going to help you make the most of your date by helping you choose a dress and giving you a few tips to help you wear it in style.

The choice of dress is something that can send even the calmest of souls into a tizzy. Questions race through your head, “Is it too formal?” “Is it too bright?” “Is it boring?” “Will they like it?” There’s a careful line to walk between “try-hard” and “could do better”.

Here are our rules to help you get it right:

1. Find out where you’re going, or if your date is keeping it a secret, at least find out whether then venue requires causal, designer, or formal wear.

2. You can NEVER go wrong with an A-Line cut. You’ll notice, if you look through the fashion magazines, that many of the best-dressed celebrities choose to wear A-Line dresses. It’s because they create a fantastic silhouette and they can usually be dressed up for formal occasions or down for informal occasions.

For example, to dress up you’re A-Line dress, you can choose to wear some nice shiny jewellery, wear your hair up (have it done by a professional salon if the date is super important to you), and choose a sophisticated clutch.

Alternatively, you can dress it down by wearing a thick pair of woollen tights, wearing your hair down, and making sure you have a lot of colour, e.g. a great pair of Shellac nails.

3. If you know the date is going to be a fun one, then consider choosing a fun A-Line dress, such as the floral lace asymmetric dress available from Goddiva. As far as evening dresses UK go, this is a great option for bringing a little fun to the occasion, while still looking gorgeous.

4. Prepare your body for you hot dress. First, you all know that shaving your legs is a must on date night — some of you may be blessed with relatively hair-free legs, but if not, then a good wax is essential. For an important date, we’d recommend having your legs waxed at a salon.

They’ll also be able to give you some great tips, and maybe even treatments, on fake tan. Personally, then we’d recommend a gentle glow by opting for a spray tan. Make sure that you seal the tan afterwards with the correct type of fix — this will help to avoid the tan leaking onto the dress, or worse, creating streaks!

Be comfortable: this is the most important factor on any date. If you feel good about yourself, if you feel comfortable, you are much more likely to have a good time. If the nerves are starting to get the better of you, then just practice a bit of mindfulness — it’s excellent at calming the nerves.
