I Should Have Handled That WAY Better…
“…after I read some of the graceful responses from people I respect in the Nashville creative business today, I’ve realized that my tone was childish and I turned into the guy I’m always knocking, that guy who judges without knowing the details.”
Nights like last night and days like today have me thinking even at 32 I still have the potential to make an ass of myself. I managed to become a bit of a monster in response to the new TN logo design last night, and after I read some of the graceful responses from people I respect in the Nashville creative community today, I’ve realized that my tone was childish and I turned into the guy I’m always knocking, that guy who judges without knowing the details. I’ve been reminded that without knowing the objective behind a design project, I have no way to know if a design is successful or not, and in turn have no right to shit on it.
My words got folks all riled up, and I didn’t think about how much that would have a negative impact on the aforementioned agency and the creative climate of my peers. I’m sorry I dragged some on you along with me. I wish I would have stated my concerns in a more professional way in retrospect. So I can chalk that one up there as a learning experience, and hope the next time around I speak words more like that of Nate Flemming instead of that angry kid inside of me.
