Every Mac user has their carefully curated toolkit of indispensable applications that make daily life smoother and more efficient. For me, these essential tools are more than just applications; they’re like the trusted companions that accompany me on my digital journey. Among the multitude of apps available, three stand out as the first I reach for whenever I set up a new Mac: Raycast, Todoist, and SoundSource.

  1. Raycast: Unleashing Efficiency

Raycast is a game-changer for Mac productivity. It’s a versatile launcher that does much more than just open applications. With Raycast, I can quickly access files, perform web searches, control system settings, and even manage my tasks and calendar events. The customizable workflows and plugins make it an absolute powerhouse. Raycast has become my command center for everything I do on my Mac.

I’ve discovered that Raycast is more than just a versatile launcher for me. While it excels at effortlessly finding files and performing quick Google searches, it’s also my trusty companion for some essential daily tasks. For instance, I rely on Raycast to provide up-to-the-minute currency conversion rates, making it a breeze to stay on top of my financial matters.

I can’t forget to mention my love for its clipboard history feature. It’s a lifesaver when I need to access previously copied items, making copy-pasting and managing my clipboard a breeze.

But perhaps one of the most vital roles Raycast plays in my daily routine is seamlessly integrating with Todoist. With a swift keyboard shortcut, I can instantly add tasks to my to-do list without missing a beat. This synergy between Raycast and Todoist streamlines my productivity and helps me maintain laser-focused organization. And speaking of Todoist…

TL;DR

  • A versatile Mac launcher, going beyond app launching;
  • Offers quick access to files, web searches, and system controls;
  • Customizable workflows and plugins for enhanced productivity;
  • Integrates currency conversion rates for financial management;
  • Features a clipboard history tool for efficient copy-pasting.

2. Todoist: My Second Brain

As seen in Building a second brain by Tiago Forte, short-term memory is like a mental scratchpad, and it has limited capacity. It’s excellent for temporarily holding and manipulating information needed for immediate tasks. However, it’s not suited for long-term storage.

The process of offloading information from short-term memory to a long-term storage system is crucial for retaining important information, reducing cognitive load, and freeing mental resources for deeper thinking and problem-solving.

Todoist is more than a to-do list app; it’s my digital brain. From work projects to personal tasks, Todoist keeps me organized and ensures that nothing slips through the cracks. Its intuitive interface, smart scheduling features, and cross-platform sync make it a joy to use. Whether it’s managing deadlines or keeping track of long-term goals, Todoist has my back.

I recently made the decision to upgrade my Todoist account to a premium subscription, and it’s the only app I’ve been compelled to leave a glowing review for on the App Store. I’ve been a dedicated user for over four years now, and I genuinely can’t imagine my life without it.

The decision to upgrade came naturally because I found myself relying on Todoist like a true enthusiast. It has become an integral part of my daily routine, helping me stay organized, efficient, and on top of my tasks. It’s saved me countless hours and prevented me from forgetting crucial things.

One of the standout features that prompted my upgrade was the ability to set reminders for specific tasks. This feature has been a game-changer, ensuring that nothing slips through the cracks in my busy schedule.

I consider myself a fairly productive person, always striving to improve my life with apps like Todoist. The value it brings to my daily life is immeasurable, and supporting its development through a premium subscription was my way of giving back to the talented team behind this indispensable tool.

In a world filled with apps, Todoist stands out as a true lifesaver, and I’m grateful to have it as my trusted companion in the journey of productivity and personal improvement.

TL;DR

  • More than a to-do list app, Todoist serves as a digital brain;
  • Keeps tasks organized, aiding in work and personal projects;
  • Features an intuitive interface, smart scheduling, and cross-platform sync;
  • Premium subscription adds valuable features like task reminders;
  • I’ve been a dedicated user for over four years, it’s a crucial tool for staying efficient and organized.

3. SoundSource: Audio Mastery

SoundSource is the secret sauce behind my audio experience on macOS. It gives me complete control over audio sources, allowing me to adjust volume levels for individual apps, apply audio effects, and switch between input and output devices seamlessly. Whether I’m in a video call, listening to music, or editing audio, SoundSource ensures that my audio is just the way I like it. It’s an essential app for any Mac audiophile.

I absolutely adore SoundSource because it empowers me with a level of sound control that reminds me of the flexibility I have with Windows. It’s a game-changer in the world of audio management for Mac users.

With SoundSource, I can finely tune the audio experience to my preferences. It’s remarkable how I can individually set the volume for specific apps, giving each one its own audio identity. Whether it’s boosting the bass on my streaming app for that extra thump or fine-tuning the treble for a crisp podcast, SoundSource ensures my auditory experience is tailored precisely to my liking.

One of the standout features that continually wows me is the ability to change the output device for individual apps. It’s a game-changer for multitasking. I can have one app streaming seamlessly to my AirPods while another one plays through my speakers, all without missing a beat.

But it doesn’t stop there. SoundSource’s thoughtful design extends to even the smallest details, like being able to adjust the input volume for my microphone if I am being too loud during a call.

In a world where we’re surrounded by digital noise, SoundSource is the tool that brings harmony to my audio world. It’s not just an app; it’s a powerful audio wizard that gives me the control I crave. If you’re someone who values audio quality and customization, SoundSource is an absolute must-have for your Mac setup.

TL;DR

  • Provides complete control over audio sources on macOS;
  • Adjust volume levels for individual apps and apply audio effects;
  • Seamlessly switch between input and output devices;
  • Offers flexibility reminiscent of Windows audio control;
  • A must-have for audiophiles seeking audio quality and customization on Mac.

These three apps — Raycast, Todoist, and SoundSource — have become integral to my daily life on macOS. They save me time, keep me organized, and enhance my audio experience in ways I couldn’t have imagined. If you’re a fellow Mac user looking to boost your productivity and overall Mac experience, give these apps a try. Trust me; you won’t be able to imagine your Mac without them.
