Marta Croce.

HRVST HQ tells the stories of the people in our office and orbit. It’s more ‘Vanity Fair’ than vanity, and more ‘Highsnobiety’ than high brow. Basically: this gang has dope stuff going on and you’ll want to know about it.

Marta Croce 👋

Meet Marta Croce, HRVST’s 29-year old graphic design specialist from Milan, Italy. That’s right; HRVST doesn’t just recruit locally, we scour the globe to recruit top-level talent, regardless of where they’re from.

Marta recently moved to Montreal to begin working out of the office full-time, and she’s already making an immediate impact.

I sat down with Marta to talk about…

If you’ve been keeping up with the HRVST Instagram, you would have seen us in action at Shopify Unite; an annual partner and developer conference where ecommerce leaders host keynotes, announce new releases, platform updates and organize networking events for its community. Here’s what you missed..

Day 1: kick-off at Shopify’s Toronto offices.

Three words: millennial office #goals. Wicked art, neon signs, buckets of LaCroix water and villain-themed meeting rooms. After grabbing some charcuterie, we tucked into our seats.

Meet Phil. The first thing you probably notice about him is his sense of style. Phil’s always sporting a look that makes you wish you knew more about fashion. He brings a much needed injection of culture to the swarm of jeans-and-t-shirt guys that generally populate HRVST.

Phil’s creativity isn’t limited to his trendy outfits; the guy’s got an unparalleled…

Take a deeper look into the personalities of a HRVST’r.

The videos that YouTube recommends for you can say a lot about a person. Not only can we learn what sort of video they like watching, but we can really analyze the suggestions and get a good idea of who they are, deep down, as people. Members of the HRVST Collective sent over screenshots of their most recent YouTube recommendations to be nitpicked and judged. Here they are..

Meet Katie. She brings an invaluable perspective in her role as project manager, where she works directly with developers, designers, clients and the collective. She makes sure shit gets done. Her personal and educational background in the arts, plus her low-key, Type A personality, have made her HRVST’s secret weapon in ensuring its projects are brought to life on-time and…

In the age of social media, freelancers and start-ups, it seems like everyone is their own brand. Well, they kind of are. While starting a Facebook page or Instagram account is easy, it’s still essential for revenue-generating brands to have a website. Market research shows that 84 percent of consumers think businesses with webpages are more credible than those with just a social media presence.

While HRVST may make dope branding look easy, it is an art and very much a science. Let’s get university for a second: according to information-foraging theory, web users are like animals hunting for a…

HRVST HQ tells the stories of the people in our office and orbit. It’s more ‘Vanity Fair’ than vanity, and more ‘Highsnobiety’ than high brow. Basically: this gang has dope stuff going on and you’ll want to know about it.

Meet Dave. The first thing you’ll notice is his energy. He’s practically vibrating — though it’s this excited creativity and enthusiasm for life that’s made him a killer entrepreneur. As the founder of Smoke Show Hot Sauce, he’s built an empire, no sweat. He can take the heat, after all.

A born-and-raised Montrealer, Dave got his start in some of…

The Auberge Willow Inn has been a hospitality hotspot in Hudson since 1820. It’s an icon and an institution, with nine rooms, a freshly renovated pub and restaurant, and a gram-worthy view of the Lake of Two Mountains. It closed last fall and was purchased in early 2017 by husband-wife duo David Ades and Patricia Wenzel who, alongside their daughter Vanessa, trusted HRVST to tell the story of the Willow’s next chapter.

Meet Dan. He’s a self-described “simple guy”, though he’s led what most would consider to be a pretty sophisticated life. Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, he emigrated to Montreal when he was five. Self-identifying as a Canadian, he speaks English with an American accent — a product of his time in New York as a model.

His successful career in…

Whether you want to admit it or not, your workspace affects your headspace — and ultimately, the quality of your work. It’s nearly impossible to get anything done if you aren’t in the proper setting to be productive. The right environment involves so much more than just a nice desk and comfortable chair.

So what does it look like, then? Here are the top five most important aspects of an ideal work environment:

#1. It’s all about space.

Let’s face it: nobody likes feeling cramped. There’s nothing worse than squeezing three people into the backseat of a Prius, or being the last person to wedge…
