The Sad State of Web Development

A lot of valid points. Yes the language is harsh, but at least it’s honest. There is no need to dance around the subject. Yes Javascript sucks a little bit, but it’s the language of the web and there is no denying it. It’s the crazy brother you have to live with.

Not a single day that goes by without saying “ Hey look ! Here comes another library doing the same shit slightly different “. Paradigm built on paradigm built on paradigm, which almost creates a vacuum of knowledge about the language itself and creates an abstraction fetish that is irrelevant to actually building a product.

Let’s all stop for a moment, and try to remember why we use these tools. To increase productivity ! I’ve been using Angular for medium to large scale web applications — not for the sake of building a SPA - and even though it’s not perfect it’s been around long enough to have solid community and enough resources to make it a good tool for the job.

Once I have my build setup configured ready, I hardly look back and have to worry if I should’ve picked Gulp instead of Grunt. Yes Gulp is getting more popular, and seems to be faster; but I’m not going to invest 3 more days of my life on another build environment. Grunt does the job, Grunt it is. SaSS does the job, SaSS is good. No ? Ok LeSS then. But I’m not gonna jump on the bandwagon for PostCSS. I don’t care enough about the tool, I care about the product. If it’s just a form that needs some gimmicks, use vanilla JS, cherry pick some styles from Bootstrap or your favourite UI framework and voila !
