Golem is more general than Gridcoin. Gridcoin is about adding custom-made transaction system to exiting decentralized computing solution. Golem is about building universal decentralized computing environment and trading platform integrated with existing transaction system (Ethereum). While BOINC is a great and very inspiring undertaking (surly inspiring for us), we believe that at the end Golem might become much more flexible and easy to use platform.
