In a world with over 3.1 billion internet users, nearly any subject matter in existence has a large potential audience — it’s all just a matter of connecting! These 7 tips will help you promote your live online broadcast and make the event a success.

1. Use social media. The marketing power social media offers is incredible. Not only can you instantly publicize and share information about your event with a large and interested audience; that entire audience has the power to share your content to their own friends and followers. When leveraged successfully, social media is the most powerful advertising tool in the world.

2. Release a trailer. Short, poignant trailers are a great way to draw attention in the days before your event.

3. Invite guests. Inviting guests is a great way to attract an audience for two reasons. First of all, it’s always exciting to have a guest star, and you may attract more of your own followers through interest and curiosity. Moreover, your guest star also has online audiences of his/her own; and if they promote the event you are essentially doubling your potential audience.

4. Blog about it. Your event makes great content material for your blog, and your blog makes a great marketing platform for your event: it’s a match made in heaven.

5. Build hype. Consider releasing information about your event piece by piece in order to build curiosity and hype. For example, if you do opt to include a guest star, you could throw that out as a surprise a week or so after your initial announcement.

6. Get involved in relevant online communities. If you already have a relationship with these communities (i.e. forums, social media groups, etc.) they will be much more receptive to your promotional efforts.

7. Follow up. When your event has ended, be sure to follow up and engage with the audience in order to foster a long-lasting relationship that will prove of great value for your next event!

A final word — promotion and publicity is a long-term investment (not an overnight project.) The earlier you start making connections and building relationships, the more effectively you’ll be able to promote your live broadcasts (or any other event for that matter.) For that reason, many of the tools and strategies discussed above are aimed at building those types of lasting connections.
