Time flies when you scooter to work.
Time moves at different speeds throughout our lives. I can remember thinking a 16-week semester was somewhere in between far too long and never long enough, and thinking that my first 8-hour work day was nothing short of eternity.

I’m finishing up week 6 at the new job, and there have been times when the 1-mile walk (uphill both ways, mind you) feeling nearly as long as that 8-hour workday, and the 5-day work week is comparable to that 16-week semester.
But sadly, despite my influx in “free time,” I haven’t had much success in the hobby search.
I successfully signed up for the Meet Up App, searched through different group options and then proceeded to ignore all of my calendar notifications. In a not-so-surprising turn of events, I’ve directed most of my post-work energy toward rewatching all of 30 Rock, devouring yet another BBC show, and obsessing over Netflix’s new show — Luke Cage (which y’all should watch immediately, because it is great.)
You may be thinking, but what about all those hobbies we brainstormed for you?
Technically, (binge) watching television is a hobby — see wikipedia. And I figured that I should start by taking advantage of my resources at hand. Why should I spend so much time away from the house seeking out life fulfilling hobbies and a healthy lifestyle, when instead I can make the most out of my overpriced Time Warner internet package?

Nonetheless, I have learned a lot in the past month, such as the best route to work, how to cross the street like you know you have great healthcare benefits and that grocery shopping while wearing a backpack and carrying your razor scooter will make you look like an awkward mash up of Home Alone & Big.
That is until you smash a bottle of champagne while reaching for a box of wine (hold your judgement, it’s eco-friendly and cost effective)… then you just look like a very sad 20-something year old wearing a raincoat drenched in champagne.

In school, one month would mean multiple exams, papers, extra-curriculars and the start and end of various relationships, but time takes on a different pace in the post-school world. A month is just the end of the pay period and the start of another cycle of work. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just a different perspective on time.
But I also fear that it’s a perspective that could easily cause me to slip into the Doldrums from The Phantom Tollbooth (here’s the video clip). This makes my need for a hobby even more dire.
But then again, all 8 Harry Potter films are returning to theaters (in IMAX!) this week, so maybe I’ll just spend my time doing that instead.
