Failing is more important than you think
I’ve always been afraid of failing. No matter the situation, I always tried my best not to fail. Like most people, I saw failure as something bad that should be avoided at all costs.
But then I realised that it is actually impossible to learn something new without failing. Have you ever seen a baby learning to walk without falling every now and then? It’s just not possible to explore a new area without making some mistakes, while you figure out what works and what doesn’t. This is especially true if your goals are really hard to achieve. Awesome achievements require multiple failures. The Wright brothers didn’t build an airplane on their first try.
Today, I don’t see failure as something bad but as something that is part of the journey. Failure means finding a way that doesn’t work. The key is to keep trying and find one that does.
I’m no longer afraid of failing. I actually do it quite often. And even though I haven’t found what really works yet, I know that I won’t do it without failing. So here I am, failing, and then trying again.
