Captain Jack Sparrow can turn your life into a movie
How to apply his philosophy to benefit yourself.
‘‘The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. Do you understand?’’
This quote from Pirates of The Caribbean was the beginning of my new life philosophy. Six months ago my life was stuck in several areas such as social relationships or the importance I was giving to my personal development. But now ‘‘Jack Sparrow is the Captain of the boat guiding me to the treasure of happiness’’
Since I started studying his message, my life turned to port and became what I always wanted it to be. As it did for me, adopting Jack Sparrow’s habits will guide you to succeed in life, work, creativity and even relationships.
You just need to follow these tips and your rum bottle will be always full.
‘‘Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate’’
First of all and most important: Forget the rules. Society is full of rules made to control you. Outfit trends, music taste and hairstyles are just some examples of the cannon balls you have to dodge.
The first step you have to take is to assume you are different. There is something in your personality that differentiates you from the others. That’s why you have to follow your own rules, which means ‘‘do what makes you happy’’. Thinking outside the box will lead to a new ocean full of creativity where you can grow!
Jack’s compass guides him to what he wants the most. Where does your compass guide you?
‘‘Me? I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It’s the honest ones you want to watch out for.’’
Next step is not overlooking simple solutions. Life is simple. Jack makes it simple. Why do you make it complicated?
Once you discover your route, choose how you’ll sail. Even when Jack sailed ‘‘on the worst ships’’ he faced the dangers in front of him and got what he wanted. You have to do the same with your life.
Try to find simple solutions to complex problems because they are usually the best. Follow this advice and you won’t waste your time on unimportant things. Using life hacks to be more productive is a good starting point.
Escape from tough situations like Jack escaped from the indigenous tribe which wanted to eat him alive. Be creative and don’t let problems swallow you!
‘‘I regret nothing ever’’
The next step is experimentation.
If you want to change your life first start changing yourself and how you do things. There is a lot of pleasure in discovering something new that you really like. That’s why you constantly need to go on new adventures, play new sports, taste new flavors, and immerse yourself in new environments.
This habit is my favorite one. It guided me to a wild life in which I constantly discover awesome things that I couldn’t discover sitting on my sofa. Last month I bought a surprise flight and didn’t find out I was travelling to London until 3 days before taking off. Sailing to new ports is always a good experiment habit.
‘‘The seas may be rough, but I am the Captain! No matter how difficult I will always prevail.”
The last lesson Captain Jack taught me is about being bold. You have trust in your capabilities. Six months ago I wasn’t very self-confident. A lot of things didn’t work out as I planned and it guided me to a low self-confidence level. Now I know that it was my low self-esteem level what guided me to failed plans and not the other way around.
People notice when you are confident about what you are saying or doing.
The way people understand your message can change if you trust yourself or not. If you seem insecure people won’t trust you. So, improving your self-confidence is essential.
This is the hidden message behind Captain Jack Sparrow’s character. Whether you choose to follow his philosophy or not is up to you, but always remember this one thing: ‘‘Pirate life is the best life’’
