I rarely get 10,000 steps. It doesn’t bother me on days I do other things. Cycling, rock climbing, yoga or even a lung sucking fitness class don’t translate on my Garmin watch into steps, so no worries. I got more steps back in the fall when I broke my wrist. Walking was what I could do.

I pulled a muscle in my back last week, so for a few days I was back to walking. My thinking was that with a little effort, I’d get the 10,000 steps every day. Nope. I’ve had to strategize to even get close. Today I had about 12 minutes to walk before I left for work, about 15 minutes to walk at a park in between meetings, and then 2 miles on the treadmill after work. That plus the steps to get from place to place, taking the long way around as much as possible, is getting me close. 9241 at 8 p.m. Walk on.
