AMA Topic: Introducing Decimated to GGG’s Community

On November 29th, 2021 at 1:00 pm (UTC), the CEO of Decimated — Mr. Stephen Arnold was invited to be the guest of AMA in GGG Community’s Discord Server. He warmly greeted our community and introduced Decimated in more depth. He also answered many questions from the community as well.

In this article, we will kindly give some highlights of the AMA between GGG x Decimated, as follows:

  • Mr. Stephen Arnold is the CEO and creative director of Fracture Labs, the developers of Decimated. He has been working in the videogame industry for 14 years, predominantly in AAA game production, on titles including Cyberpunk 2077, Evolve, Just Cause 4, Batman Arkham Origins, Star Citizen, and more. His involvement in the Decimated project has been in art, animation, cinematics, and motion capture production. On the blockchain side, he has helped Decentraland and Ethermon with art assets for their games and has been in development on Decimated since 2017 — officially since 2018.
  • Decimated is a third-person survival role-playing game developed in Unreal Engine, where players can choose to play a variety of roles, in three main factions; human citizens, cyborg cops, and AI robots. Decimated set the place on Earth that has been abandoned after hundreds of years of destructive climate change and catastrophic neglect of the environment by corporations and industry. Players can choose to play PvP or PvE by salvaging resources, technology, and digital currency, repairing vehicles, building bases, fortifying shelters, collecting bounties, ambushing, looting, or trading in this hostile post-apocalyptic environment. The demo will be available in early 2022, as the team works on the alpha version.
  • Decimated is Free-to-Play to attract millions of players. It will be a metaverse itself — a place for players to play, earn and socialize. Players will be able to choose a role on the game and act it out; collecting resources, ambushing convoys, protecting VIPs, trading, hacking, and then have their personalized vehicle, weapon, drone, and character, and you’ll be able to get your base, safehouse or apartment and customize it, and invite your friends.
  • Decimated game aiming to be AAA quality. The team developing a massive open world where players can explore and choose to be friendly or hostile to other players. It also aims for the traditional videogame market, as Decimated wants to have millions of players by the time the alpha version is released. They are targeting players of ARMA, DAYZ, RUST, Fortnite, GTA V, Star Citizen, ARK Survival Evolved, Mass Effect, Star Wars Battlefront, and more.
  • Decimated won an award for “Best Blockchain Game” at the Kiev Crypto Games Conference in 2019, has been shortlisted out of hundreds of games at various game pitch competitions, and received an Epic Megagrant from Unreal Engine in 2021.
  • Development of Decimated started in 2017, but incorporated the company and registered the trademarks in 2018, prototyping in Unreal Engine with Ethereum. But the team felt that it was too early, the market wasn’t ready and there was no demand for blockchain games. So Decimated’s team focused on the development of gameplay mechanics for the next few years to make sure that it had a fun game first, and then blockchain integration second. Mr. Arnold feels that this was a good strategy, in the end, as now they are much further along in terms of product development.
  • Decimated had a playable pre-alpha demo on PC since May 2020 and did monthly playtests with the Discord community with those that leveled up and showed loyalty to the game. Watch some videos of Decimated development and playtests here: https://www.youtube.com/decimatedvideogame
  • Decimated has been completed fundraising stage and next available demo will be available in Q2 2022 — a blockchain free version on Steam, and a Solana integrated version on the website.
  • $DIO is the central currency in the Decimated game, which players will be able to earn playing and spend on virtual items, consumables, and cosmetics. Players can use $DIO to buy vehicle or weapon licenses and will have to find paid work to progress and level up their character, to earn more $DIO.

Players can earn $DIO by:

  1. Exploring and salvaging cryptocurrency and technology
  2. Undertaking legal or illegal jobs with varying risk/reward
  3. Hijacking shipments/ambushing convoys
  4. Escorting shipments and protecting them
  5. Collecting bounties by imprisoning/killing players and target NPC’s
  6. Breaking prisoners out of imprisonment for a reward
  7. Buying/selling/trading items to other players or on the virtual market
  • Security & User Interface are the most important aspect that users see on a platform. Decimated plan to integrate anti-cheat systems that will ban players that cheat in the game, and of course, when players buy NFT’s in our marketplace this will be highly secure and have an easy-to-use interface. It also plans to use an email verification system to block fake accounts.
  • Decimated works with marketing partners specialized in videogame marketing and crypto marketing. Over the next few weeks, Decimated will have videos out from more than 100 YouTubers. Their marketing partners will be helping grow social media accounts and getting people hyped about the game. They also have an in-engine trailer in production, which will show cinematic gameplay using in-game assets in Unreal Engine.
  • Decimated will do an IDO on Firestarter, IEO on 1 exchange, then list on 3 top exchanges in December, and the NFT marketplace will be out in January. The date isn’t fixed yet. We suggest joining Decimated discord to get notified: https://discord.gg/decimated
  • Regarding news about Steam announcing that it would block all games related to blockchain, Decimated releasing only a blockchain-free demo on Steam. So, this issue will not affect Decimated project. The full game will be available on the Decimated official website and potentially other distribution platforms.
  • Decimated is the first use-case scenario of this which they are developing in Unreal Engine 4 and SpatialOS. It tested SpatialOS many years ago but it is no longer part of Decimated tech stack. It is to enable thousands of players per server, but the team decided to remove it from an earlier version of the game and upgrade to the latest versions of Unreal to use the latest features. Decimated is running the game on AWS servers.
  • Decimated will always balance the game mechanics and economy to balance out the supply and demand of tokens. The virtual items will be purchasable in $DIO, and players will have the option to buy food, water, fuel, and ammo, or try and scavenge it in the world. The goal is to have a circular economy when players earn and re-spend their tokens to upgrade their character, vehicles, weapons, and apartments.
