Catriona is a freelance animator from Brisboner, QLD. She’s a hack but darn heck is she trying her best and that’s all you can really ask for, r-right? You may know her from the Brisbane Band Poster, or some vapid meme you reblogged. However hopefully not at all.
What is your favourite thing to draw?
Humans, humans pulling stupid faces, the grubby Australian rat children you see cavorting around the nightclubs every given Saturday. Architecture but I’m still pretty janky at it.
Do you keep a sketchbook? What do you fill it up with?
E V E R Y T H I N G. I try to at least. At the moment I’m going through a phase we’re I’m trying to push my shape langauge to loosen up and be more appealing. While at the same time still constantly researching and practising anatomy and doing muscle studies. A constant creative tension for 1x R I L E D U P K I D.
What’s a great comic you’ve read recently?
Been devouring HTML Flowers and Simon Hanselmann comix at the moment. I can never get enough of either of their stuff, they r beautiful human gems.
I read all of Jesse Moynihan’s “Forming” in a one hour sitting recently as well. And for the rest of the day my hands got possessed by hyperdrive muscle demons. All I could draw was angry shirtless primordial demi-gods it was WILD. You can really see his influence in Adventure Time once you look over his personal stuff.
And Mould Map. I bought Mould Map a year or half or so ago. Still the most fuked up inspiring stuff I’ve ever seen put into a compendium and sold. I re-read it a lot and use it as a style guide.
What’s the most enjoyable part of the comics making process for you?
That very very occasional moment where you forget your ego and your anxiety and experience a meditative state; where drawing is actually fun and the hands you draw come out looking ok.
Is print dead?
Nah. that notion seems pretty antediluvian in the year 2k15
Do you remember the last cool thing you got in the mail?
A shirt with “hentai” printed on the back in hi-vis material. Maximum readability.
